Job Description
- **Location**: Singapore (Gul Avenue)
- **Company Overview**:
- Makino Asia is a world leader in high-precision metal-cutting and Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM) technology. Our Singapore headquarters is a fully integrated manufacturing hub, housing R&D, engineering, and production under one roof. We serve mission-critical industries, including aerospace, automotive, and precision engineering, by delivering world-class vertical and horizontal machining centers.
- At Makino, we are committed to technical excellence and innovation. We offer a structured environment where engineers can pursue distinct career tracks in either Technical Expertise or Management, supported by a culture of continuous learning and hands-on development.
- **Role Overview**:
- Join our New Technology Development team as a CNC Design Engineer, where you will own the end-to-end integration and optimization of next-generation CNC controller platforms. This is a high-impact, senior-level technical role focused on adapting major controller architectures (such as Fanuc or Siemens) to meet the exacting precision standards of Makino’s 3-axis and 5-axis machines.
- This role bridges the gap between complex software development and physical machine behavior, requiring a practical developer who thrives in a hands-on manufacturing environment and is passionate about shaping the future of precision engineering.
- **Key Responsibilities**:
- **Drive Controller Integration:** Lead the adaptation and development of external CNC controller platforms, ensuring seamless integration with Makino’s high-precision machine specifications.
- **Develop Motion-Control Logic:** Design and optimize motion-control algorithms and PLC/CNC logic to enhance machine performance and accuracy.
- **Software & UI Development:** Develop robust applications and user interfaces using C, C++, and C# specifically tailored for CNC controller environments.
- **Hands-on Hardware Optimization:** Perform practical servo tuning and hardware-software fusion directly on the shop floor to ensure the physical behavior of the machine meets design objectives.
- **Architecture Mastery:** Deep-dive into existing proprietary architectures to navigate and evolve current system logic for future technology applications.
- **Requirements**:
- **Minimum/Core Requirements:**
- Extensive experience in CNC design or development, with a proven track record of working directly with CNC milling or turning machines in a manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated expertise in practical, hands-on servo tuning.
- Deep technical proficiency with at least one major CNC controller platform (e.g., Fanuc or Siemens).
- Proven ability to develop motion-control algorithms and program PLC/CNC logic.
- Strong software development skills in C, C++, or C#, with experience in building application-level software or UIs.
- Ability to work onsite at our Gul Avenue facility to facilitate direct hardware integration and machine testing.
- **Preferred/Bonus Requirements:**
- Degree in Electrical, Computer, or Mechanical Engineering.
- Familiarity with industrial communication protocols such as Ethernet IP or Modbus.
- Basic knowledge of electrical circuit design to support hardware integration.
- Leadership potential or prior experience mentoring junior engineers, as this role has a clear trajectory toward a lead position.
- **Why you should be interested**:
- **End-to-End Ownership:** This is a rare opportunity to own a long-horizon development mandate. You aren't just maintaining code; you are building the future of CNC technology for a global industry leader.
- **Tangible Impact:** Work in an environment where R&D and manufacturing happen in the same building. You will see your algorithms and tuning directly influence the performance of world-class machining centers.
- **Leadership Trajectory:** For those with the aptitude, this role offers a structured path to lead a specialized technical team within 6 to 12 months.
- **Comprehensive Benefits:** We provide islandwide transport coverage, a variable bonus scheme, and an Annual Wage Supplement (AWS) as part of a competitive compensation package.
- Ready to shape the next generation of precision technology? We look forward to your application.
