- **Role Overview**:
- Join our Application Engineering team and bridge the gap between sophisticated CAD design and physical validation. This role is dedicated to ground-up New Product Development (NPD) and the design of advanced automation solutions integrated with Makino’s high-precision machinery. You will play a pivotal role in translating customer requirements into automated, high-precision reality, spending approximately 30% of your time on the shop floor to ensure your designs perform flawlessly in a real-world manufacturing environment.
- **Key Responsibilities**:
- **Lead End-to-End Design Projects**: Drive the full design lifecycle, from initial concept and first-principles engineering (stress analysis and physics-based reasoning) to the creation of manufacturable, high-precision solutions.
- **Develop Integrated Automation Solutions**: Design and integrate complex automation systems—including robotic interfaces, pallet changers, and specialized material handling mechanisms—to enhance the productivity and autonomy of Makino’s machining centers.
- **Customization & Value-Add Engineering**: Develop bespoke mechanical customizations for EDM systems and machining centers based on specific client needs and high-precision automation requirements.
- **Hands-on Validation**: Work actively on the shop floor to prototype, test, and validate designs, ensuring that every automated solution meets Makino’s world-class standards for precision and durability.
- **Technical Leadership**: Act as a technical lead and mentor for junior engineers, guiding their professional development and ensuring the team maintains a high bar for engineering rigor.
- **Global Collaboration**: Occasionally travel (approximately 2-3 times per year) to support global projects and interface with international stakeholders regarding automated system deployments.
- **Requirements**:
- **Minimum/Core Requirements**:
- Demonstrated experience in mechanical design engineering, having operated at a senior level within a high-precision manufacturing or industrial equipment environment.
- Proven track record in designing automation solutions or successfully integrating mechanical systems with automated machinery.
- Deep mastery of mechanical design principles, including a strong understanding of stress analysis, material properties, and manufacturability from first principles.
- High proficiency in SolidWorks for complex mechanical and automation design.
- Expert knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) for high-precision applications.
- Ability to work effectively in a "desk-to-floor" capacity, with a demonstrated commitment to hands-on prototyping and shop-floor validation.
- **Preferred/Bonus Requirements**:
- Experience in ground-up New Product Development (NPD), taking products from concept to production.
- Prior experience mentoring junior engineers or providing technical guidance to a team.
- Proficiency in Business Mandarin is required to effectively collaborate and negotiate with regional stakeholders and customers in the North Asia market.
